Meetings in Cubicles

Don’t hold meetings in your cubicle unless you get the written consent of all of your cubicle mates 2 days prior to the meeting. Also, keep your meetings to a limited size (no more than 10 people) because these meetings can be distracting to those around you. If discussing sensitive information you will want to whisper so others in cubicles next to yours can’t hear the information being met about. Keep the meeting short—no more than ninety minutes is the accepted rule. Meetings in cubicles are acceptable as long as you follow the basic guidelines.

One lady states that—

Where I work, up to 8 people are allowed to meet in a cubicle. Any more than that and we have to meet in a conference room. Most of the time we keep our voices to a respectable volume and don’t disturb others who are not in our meeting. We have had to use the large cone of silence on occasion when talking about a really sensitive issue. It is so cool! With one push of a button the cone descends down from the ceiling and encircles everyone. No one around us can hear what we are saying even though everyone in the circle can hear perfectly well. It sure beats the heck out of trying to hear someone from across the conference room table.  Where I work we don’t have to get the consent of anyone who sits near us. We just go ahead and hold the meeting no matter how many people don’t like the idea.
