Remove your Hand from a Jar

  • Load it up thick with grease.  Spread motor oil, butter, chain saw grease, WD40, or other greasy substance on the part of the hand that is accessible.  Use sparingly.
  • Swiftly pull with jerky, firm pressure. Tuck the jar under your arm or have a person hold the jar as you pull.
  • Lower the hand and jar in ice water.  The combination of the greased hand and the cold, which reduces swelling, may release the hand.
  • Raise the hand high above your head (while standing on tip-toes).  Elevate the hand (and jar) for forty-five minutes to reduce swelling.
  • Try to slide out the hand to break the vacuum seal.
  • Break the jar.  It is a good idea to shatter the jar by hitting it hard with a hammer.
  • Clean up the broken glass and tend to the wounds (from the broken glass).
